RfID applications in the apparel industry

2021-08-25 Industry News

All along, the business process of garment manufacturing enterprises is very complex and cumbersome, on the one hand to deal with the production process generated numerous related data, on the other hand to prevent the workshop backlog of a mountain of work in progress. The introduction of RFID technology can effectively solve this problem, thus helping enterprises in production, management to improve efficiency. So how do we properly apply RFID? This requires us to understand its main risks, processes, and characteristics. Then choose a suitable production management system.

1.    Determine the clear objectives of the application system

RfID solutions are superior to other methods of data acquisition in that they provide "real-time data" for production online. Managers can act on this data in real time to correct errors and balance production lines before paying a high price. However, it also depends on whether the system design can collect data in real time. If the system is designed to download data from RFID data collectors only every day, every half day, or every hour, although the collected data also has a certain discount effect, but because the data is too old, it is not possible to correct errors in real time, to solve some problems that may lead to downtime, it is difficult to increase productivity

2.Choose the right RFID data collector

At present, the market collectors are divided into: there is a screen, no screen, there is a keyboard and no keyboard. Which collector to choose lies in the actual needs and cost budget of the enterprise. If you just need to collect data without having to give back information in real time, you don't need a screen. Instead, the screen is required to reflect in real time the correctness or cause of the error in the collected data. The purpose of the keyboard is to add additional input to the RFID label does not contain data such as defect location, rework reasons, downtime reasons, etc. to give back to the production situation in the field, further enrich the content of the data, improve system functions3. 3.Data transfer method

1.RFID collector after obtaining production information directly transfer data to the server and then integrated into the application system, the data of this way must be real-time, data transmission volume is small, can give back information in real time. However, system reliability and server load must be considered. If thousands of collectors upload data at the same time, the server may be overloaded. Furthermore, whether a server failure or line outage affects production and how and how much it costs to resolve the problem.

   2. The data is stored in the RFID collector and waits for the server to extract it before it is sent to the system. The advantage of this mode of transmission is that even if the server fails or the line is down, it does not affect production. When the server resumes operation, the data is extracted by the collector again, and the reliability of the system is high. Note, however, that the read cycle of the server depends on how many collectors there are and how long each needs to read. The more load, the longer the read cycle and the longer the data update cycle. If the data is not updated at all times, real-time data cannot be obtained. The easiest way to determine whether a system can provide real-time data is to look at how quickly the system feeds back information. The user can be informed by the RFID collector screen or computer whether the data has been processed and fed back to the system in real time

  4. The life of the RFID collector

The lifetime of the collector depends not only on its external performance and quality, but also on how the data is written. Collectors with storage functions built-in memory generally use flash memory, its same location erasure number is limited, if frequently wipe the same location, flash memory will soon be written bad, card reader life will be discontinued. If the system is designed to read data every once in a long time, the problem need not be considered. However, if you read and write frequently, consider that memory application methods cannot always be in the same place. The most important thing in choosing a suitable garment production management system is the real-time, reliability and stability of its data. In addition, it is important to understand the total cost of installing the system, most enterprises only calculate the price of the application system and collector, while ignoring some hidden costs such as collector life, computer hardware, software licensing, network equipment, etc.
